We’re just one year away from the official launch of the the PlayStation 5, and surely but slowly, more information is making its way onto the internet. However, this time it’s not just numbers and technical aspects. The alleged PS5 Development Kit (Devkit) patented design that we first saw earlier this year seems to have been validated. An apparent image of the device has been made public thanks to video uploaded by the YouTube Channel ZONEofTECH.
One look at the V-shaped Devkit and you can easily see the resemblance between the initial patent design and the current product. However it’s important to note that this alleged design will more than likely not be the final PlayStation 5 design, as most Devkits don’t even come close to what will eventually sit on store shelves. From we can tell in the image, the air ventilation is in the center of the kit, while the actual bells and whistles are located on the front.
The most notable of these is the words on the top left of the kit that say “Prototype 1 Not For Sale” which is a usual indicator that this is not intended for public use At the bottom left is the Disc Drive with some buttons that say Standby, Reset, Eject, System Init and Network Init. To the right are some USB ports, and an Ethernet cable, one of which is being used in this image. Most of these will be readily available on the final product, but don’t expect the System Init and Network Init to be on there.
Above the ports is what looks like an integrated camera, which would correlate with the earlier reports that the system is being made with streaming in mind. On top of that, the previous systems used optical peripherals with varying success so it’s no surprise that Sony is implementing this feature once again. In addition, it could be used in relation for future VR only titles, which would make it much more intuitive for newcomers. As we said earlier, this allegedly leaked image is just the next piece of information that will be brought out before Sony inevitably reveals the final product.
We already know that the PS5 is being developed with the intent of saving more energy, especially in comparison to the vacuum sucking PlayStation 4, and that the company will apparently be targeting the hardcore gamers with bigger AAA titles. Sony already has already enjoyed this success with their predecessors, and now it looks like they are trying to repeat this process on the PS5. One thing is for sure, the next 12 months are going to be a really long wait.
