Playstation 4 Slim Upgraded To 1TB Hard Drive In North America

The Playstation 4 slim now features a 1 TB hard drive in North America. This means that the region is finally catching up to the rest of the world who have already received the upgraded console. Sony announced on twitter that these slim models of the ps4 will be “arriving on store shelves” this month. These upgraded systems will continue to sell for $299.99. A Sony representative confirmed to Polygon that this upgrade is permanent stating that “1 TB is the standard storage size moving forward in the US and Canada.” They added that the company is no longer shipping 500 GB units in those markets. The spokesperson also stated that Sony will continue to sell 500 GB consoles in Latin America.

Sony released the redesigned Playstation 4 slim worldwide this past September. The base model offers 500 GB of internal storage. And up until now this has been the only version of the console available for purchase in North America (besides for the branded console like the 1 TB unit included in the Final Fantasy XV bundle). Europe on the other hand, has received multiple game bundles containing a 1 TB ps4 slim, and also a 1 TB version of the new Glacier White model was just released in Japan this February. Sony does make it easy for consumers to swap out the ps4’s internal hard drive and replace it with a standard 2.5 inch drive. In addition to this, the company has also added support for USB external hard drives with the 4,50 system software update that went live in March.
