Today, new details were revealed on update 6.1 for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds which marks the start of Season 6. The new season brings a brand new island, new dangers, and new weapons to the game. Update 6.1 is available now on the PUBG Test Server and will be available for PC on January 22 and on consoles at the end of the month on January 30.
The new 64 player map Karakin brings intense action and quick gameplay to PlayerUnkown’s Battlegrounds as it is the smallest map to date for the game. Karakin is a 2×2 km island off of the coast of Northen Africa. Its wide-open terrain amid an arid, rocky environment encourages challenging engagements because of its smaller size and new gameplay features. Players should “expect the tension of Miramar combined with the pace of Sanhok.” New gameplay elements include the Black Zone and Sticky Bombs.
The Black Zone is only a part of Karakin and it serves as a way to change the map’s layout every match. The Black Zone “levels buildings into smoking ruins.” It is random in where and how it impacts the map, as towns and compounds can be totally fine, completely flattened, and everything in between. Players can tell if they are in the Black Zone if they hear the siren and are inside the purple circle on the minimap. You can tell which buildings were destroyed as they are marked with an X on the minimap.
Karakin also introduces Breach Points to the map which can be destroyed with Sticky Bombs, a new throwable that will be available in Karakin only. They will only work on certain walls and floors but they serve as more options that players can use, whether it’s creating more sightlines, storming a building, or finding new areas to explore. There will also be bullet penetration to Karakin’s weakest walls.
