Back in December, Capcom announced that they were going to release a special 30-minute timed demo of the upcoming Resident Evil 2 Remake. Some fans were skeptical due to having such a small amount of time to enjoy it. It’s been a couple of days since the company released it to the public, and despite the limitations, it seems to have done well for the most part. Still, the fact remains that you can only play this demo once, and if you die in the game, that’s the end of the demo as well.
Some players have taken this challenge to a whole new level though, as it was discovered by PC players that by tinkering around with the reset timer on Steam, you can replay the demo. However, this requires you to install a third party software that may or may not go against Steam’s policies. Console players have also found a work around, albeit a much simpler and less stressful way. By creating a new profile and starting up the demo, the timer acts as if you have never played before, allowing you to replay it.
As if this wasn’t enough, players have taken further advantage by speed running the 30 minute demo, with the fastest one we’ve seen coming in at just two minutes and fifty seven seconds. Considering the demo has you running around such a large area, this is an impressive feat. We’re not sure how Capcom will respond to this, or if they will even respond at all, as the game is due to launch in just a little over a week.
As for the demo itself, the game looks absolutely stunning. With beautiful visuals and intuitive controls, it’s looking more and more like this will be the first real blockbuster for 2019, and we won’t have to wait long to find out. Resident Evil 2 Remake launches on January 25, 2019 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
