Play As A Hole In The Ground In Donut County

Donut County is, according to their Twitter bio, the only game where you get to play as a hole in the ground!

It is also an adorably stylized physics adventure game that featured as a finalist in the Independent Games Festival. Though we mentioned it briefly in our coverage of PlayStation Experience last year, this quirky title seemed to warrant a more in-depth look.

The premise is simple enough. You play as a raccoon named BK, a new hire at a tech start-up that uses remote control holes to steal garbage (and other things) from people. You move your hole around swallowing more and more garbage. The more that you take in, the bigger the hole gets.

Apparently BK makes a mistake and falls into a hole himself, and it somehow takes the residents of Donut County with him. It will be up to you to figure out how to get them out of this rather sticky situation.

The gameplay looks simple from what we’ve seen so far, but no doubt the physics challenges will get more and more complex as the game goes on.

This is still an early title coming out of the new Annapurna Interactive. While there may have been some skepticism about a film publisher transitioning into games, they have made some fabulous choices in their first year and a half of operation, including What Remains of Edith Finch and Florence. The designer, Ben Esposito, is also a veteran of the team that worked on Edith Finch.

While there is no exact release date for Donut County as of yet, the game is set to come out sometime this year. It will be available on Steam for PC and Mac , but is also set to come out for iOS and the PlayStation 4.
