One of 2020’s most popular titles has just received it’s biggest update yet. The indie hit sensation Phasmophobia’s new massive Nightmare update is here, and it introduces a plethora of new features, which includes a new map and four new ghosts. In addition, it also has the brand new Nightmare difficulty, which is described as “a challenge mode for those seeking the most intense gameplay Phasmophobia has to offer.”

The new map, which is called Maple Lodge Campsite will include all of the amenities that you’d expect at a campsite. This means a picnic area, some tents, a log cabin, and a fairly big lake. The map is more medium sized than some of the other ones, but in turn is one of the more visually appealing ones in the game. Speaking of visuals, there are four new ghosts to contend with, each of which has its own aspects and weaknesses. Dubbed Onryo, The Twins, Obake, and Raiju, each one will have a much higher chance of spawning during the Halloween event, giving players, new and old a really good chance of running into them.
The ghosts, in general, have been tweaked to some extent in this update, some of which is meant to make it much more difficult when attempting to summon them. For instance, the ghost you’re hunting can disrupt electronic equipment when they become visible, as well as using the walky-talky which will now attract the ghost’s attention. This is all amplified in the game’s new difficulty mode, Nightmare, which is sure to make ghost hunting that much more painful. The developer, Kinetic Games has also revamped the lower difficulty levels in order to accommodate the new terrifying one. The Nightmare update for Phasmophobia is out now on PC through Steam, just in time for Halloween.
