The PC Gaming Show returned with its largest showing of titles yet. Going for roughly two hours, we were given a glimpse of what’s to come, as well as a couple of awesome surprises. This year had everything imaginable with exclusive premiers, a shadow drop, a robot helping with the hosting, and many more. Here’s what happened at the PC Gaming Show 2020.
The event started off with the worldwide reveal of Valheim, a Viking inspired action-adventure title. In the game, you’ll be able to travel around an open world while battling monsters and rival factions. You can also build settlements and buildings, as the game utilizes elements from the survival genre. You can sign up for the Beta here.
One of the biggest surprises to come out of the show was that the much anticipated Torchlight III is available on Steam right now through Early Access. Echtra Games went into some of the new features, such as the new classes, which include a steam engine robot, 2 complete acts to play through, and the ability to create a custom fort. On top of that, there are more than 100 legendary items to hunt down. The game is available on Steam for Early Access now.
Speaking of highly anticipated, Frontier showed off the newest expansion for Elite: Dangerous, dubbed Odyssey, which is due to launch early next year. The biggest thing that Odyssey is touting is the ability to finally leave your spaceship and actually walk on planets. This new venture will be included in the game for both solo and co-op players. The expansion will also bring brand new planets to the fold, giving players another reason to hop out of there ships and explore the unknown. Odyssey will be available through Steam.
Just after this, the show is hijacked by Greg Miller, who is currently hosting the Guerrilla Collective. Wanting to take this opportunity for himself, he gleefully announces that Persona 4 Golden is available for PC on Steam today, although we expected to see this thanks to some major leaks earlier in the week. The game is already well known JRPG classic from the PS Vita, and this PC version adds full HD visuals and retains all of the excellent gameplay mechanics. Persona 4 Golden is available on PC now through Steam.
Next up was a new game called In Sound Mind, a psychological horror game. The setting, tone, and atmosphere alone make playing this feel unnerving, but the whole point of the game is to be unsettling. You’ll progress through memories, each with their own puzzles and boss fights. The game will be out sometime in 2021, but you can try out a demo on Steam right now.
Airborne Kingdom is a city-building simulator except that it’s all in the sky. You’ll be tasked with creating a flying sky fortress from the ground, or in this case air up, as well as managing upgrades to buildings. That means obtaining resources and keeping the citizens happy in the process. Airborne Kingdom launches this Fall and will be available through the Epic Games Store.
Another intriguing title that was shown was Icarus, which is being developed by DayZ creator Dean Hall and RocketWerks. The game will be a survival based one and will also be free-to-play. Icarus takes place on a hash alien world where players must try and survive in an environment where they cannot breathe. Players will start off in an orbital station where they are launched downward onto the planet where they will engage in multiple tasks to try and live. Icarus will be available through Steam.
Evil Genius 2: World Domination was shown once again, but this time with a lot more to offer. Your lair can now be spread across multiple levels as opposed to being restricted to just one. Oh yeah, and you can create your own island of evil and mischief. Rebellion is ensuring that you truly feel like a supervillain here, and this recent look makes it very promising. Evil Genius 2: World Domination will launch later this year for Steam.
We already got a brief glimpse of Godfall during the PlayStation 5 Reveal event this week, but Counterplay decided to showcase it here as well. Here we learn about the world, named Aperion, where you’ll be looting and getting new items called Valorplates which are legendary pieces of armor. Godfall will launch this holiday for both the PlayStation 5 and PC through the Epic Game Store.
Prodeus is something for anyone who is a huge fan of Doom. The game is a full retro call-back to the 1990’s shooter genre, and there’s plenty of guns to boot. Prodeus will also include a level editor allowing players to make their own splatter zone which can then be shared online with others. The game will launch later this year for Steam.
Fans of Ace Combat will more than likely love this game which Project Wingman is most likely influenced by. The game will feature the classic third-person perspective and a view from the cockpit, partaking in dog fights and flying your way through numerous scenarios. In addition, Project Wingman will also support VR, making for an even more immersive experience. The game will launch sometime this year for Steam.
There’s a lot that’s already been said about Total War Saga: Troy, but we got another excellent look at what we can expect when it launches. The game will take place during the fabled Trojan War from Greek Mythology, and you’ll take control of some of the most famous heroes in the story. Creative Assembly has developed a beautiful battlefield for us to destroy, which includes using siege tactics and even the famous Trojan Horse itself. Total War Saga: Troy will launch for the Epic Games Store on August 13, where it will be free for the first 24 hours. It will release for Steam in 2021.
Mafia: Definitive Edition looks absolutely stunning, so much so that you’d be hard-pressed to believe that it originally came out in 2002. This remake, which was built from the ground up, Hangar 13 went into how they recreated everything all the way to the cinematics. Special attention is being given to the driving aspect, which was a bit of a chore to go through on the PlayStation 2. Mafia: Definitive Edition will launch on August 28 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC through Steam.
Weird West is another IP from the creative minds WolfEye Studios and Devolver Digital. Just as the name implies, the game takes place in the wild west, but with unique and supernatural situations. On top of that, the game will also have the famous, or infamous permadeath mechanic on the hardest difficulty, meaning it’s one life and then game over. You’ll play as five different people, and if you can keep them alive they’ll join you the further you progress into the game. Weird West will launch sometime in 2021 and will be available through Steam.
