Perception Coming to Xbox One

Developer Deep End Games recently announced that first-person horror game Perception will be headed to the Xbox One, according to a post on the Xbox Wire. Deep End Games is a group of developers that are famous for their work on the BioShock series.

The fact that Perception is coming to the Xbox One is no surprise; Deep End Games said more than year ago that the game was a possibility. The game is also in development for both the PS4 and PC. The trailer is posted below.

In what may be a first in video game history, you play blind character named Cassie Thornton. She is trapped in a mansion in Massachusetts and she needs to find her way out. The mansion is home to a supernatural entity called “the presence.” You only have three tools to help you: your walking stick, your smartphone and your hearing. Every tap of your stick and click on your smartphone creates a visualization that illuminates the world around you.

In the trailer, you can visualize how Cassie envisions her surroundings, being able to tell what things are shaped like and in what direction the steps are taking you in. There isn’t much color to Perception. The background is black, the objects are blue and green only appears when she’s hiding.

“You don’t have shotguns and magic powers and all that,” project lead Bill Gardner told GameSpot when The Deep End announced Perception back in 2015. Gardner recently served as design director for BioShock: Infinite.

Perception plays out across a series of chapters from different eras. Each time period explains something bad that has happened in the mansion. When those missions are completed, you travel back in time. As you do so, the mansion does as well. In fact, it can basically do a complete 180; it can change its dimensions and it can also change the people and spirits that dwell inside it.

No release date for Perception has been announced.

I'm a big Pokémon fan, so I'l spend a lot of my time playing that. Other than that, I love sports, particularly the Charlotte Hornets and the Carolina Panthers. No matter how bad the team is, I will always rep them.
