Pathway, A Strategic Turn-Based Pulp Adventure Game, Reveals New Gameplay Preview

There’s nothing like traveling back to the year 1936 for some good old fashioned, not-so historically accurate adventures. Or at least, that’s what game developing company Robotality sees in their upcoming turn based adventure, Pathway. It’s a turn-based strategy game, rocking the classic 16-bit pixel art style of older games. And after a year of waiting, the first gameplay trailer surfaces with the help from Chucklefish. Warning, however, there’s no commentary through the gameplay, so a mouse moving around and general observation will be needed to figure out what’s going on:

Having first been announced in April of 2018, the developing team had admitted in an interview with PC Gamer about the inspiration for the game. Namely, it was The Adventures of Tintin, and soon after The Mummy (1999) and Indiana Jones. This pulp adventure follows up with similar aspects of those 1930’s based stories, including the chance to beat up some Nazi’s, and…Nazi zombies. As mentioned before, it is ‘not-so’ historically accurate.

The game takes place in the Middle East where Nazi’s have kidnapped a man named Morten that the player needs to save. The player can get up to 16 different characters, all with their own set of skills and abilities to help on the adventure. There are also 5 different campaigns that the player goes through, and the adventure goes differently depending on which campaign is chosen.

The gameplay shows a part of one of the campaigns that the player can traverse, and shows off the turn based mechanics that the developers highlight. It also highlights two of the characters that the players can have.

With lots in store for this rescue mission, and tough choices that will need to be made, Pathway plans on exploring them all. For more information, check out the Steam page for it. Pathway is set to come out some time in 2019.
