A new trailer for Pathologic 2, not to be confused with the HD remaster of the original game, has been released. This gameplay teaser gives viewers a look at some of the gameplay elements that will be in the remade version of the cult classic ‘narrative-driven survival thriller.’
The Steam page for Pathologic 2 describes the game like this:
Pathologic 2 is an open world survival horror game set in a town that’s being consumed by a deadly plague. Face the realities of a collapsing society as you make difficult choices in seemingly lose-lose situations. The plague isn’t just a disease. You can’t save everyone.
Get to know it, winning the affection of the locals and gaining allies, or try to carve your own path alone. Explore the Town, its inhabitants, and their traditions; fight both the plague itself and its victims; try to make a difference before the time runs out.
Pathologic was originally a first-person psychological horror game made back in 2005 by the Russian indie studio Ice-Pick Lodge. It was well-received in it’s native country, but its English version suffered from a poor translation job as well as the developer being practically unknown outside of Russia. In 2015, a revised version of the game titled Pathologic Classic HD was released, featuring updated graphics, new voice acting, and a drastically improved English translation.
The game shown in the trailer above is neither the original nor the HD release. It’s basically a retelling of the original game’s story with refined content and mechanics. Successfully funded on Kickstarter back in October 2014, the developers liken it to games like Silent Hill 2 and Dark Souls 2 and how they revisit and experiment with concepts introduced in the games that came before.
Pathologic 2 does not have a hard release date yet, but you can sign up for an alpha demo here.
