Paramount Shares A Sega Genesis Cartridge To Promote Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Film

Paramount Pictures have sent out working Sega Genesis Sonic the Hedgehog 3 cartridges to press and social media influencers, as reported by TechEBlog. The cartridge features a unique splash screen and various options such as movie character profiles, posters and a special ‘unlock’ option. 

By  The Gamer’s report the cartridge came to them housed in a real Sega Genesis box with custom artwork. On the cover is a live action depiction of Sonic and the cartridge features both Sonic and Shadow.

IGN have determined from the contents of the cartridge that the release date of the Sonic The Hedgehog 3 trailer that was this past Monday. On the cartridge, characters in their respective selection screen feature unique dialogue, these characters include Sonic, Tales, Knuckles, Shadow, Dr. Ivo Robotnik, Dr. Gerald Robotnik, Tom Wachowski, Maddie Wachowki, Director Rockwell, Agent Stone, Rachel Handel and Randal Handel. Various posters feature Sonic and Shadow squaring off with the three motif present behind them and another features Shadow riding a motorcycle.

The highlight of the cartridge is the ‘unlock’ mode. Within is an auto scrolling mini game where sonic is running from Shadow, Your options for engagement are to move left, right and jump; While you cannot win or lose you can place a sequence of inputs from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 on Sega Genesis to unlock dialogue where Sonic will scold you for cheating and a new option for ‘Trailer’ will open on the opening splash screen. Clicking on the option will  indicate the date of the latest trailer as November 25 2024.  

The initial trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has been released featuring actor Keanu Reeves debut as Shadow the Hedgehog. If Paramount’s ability to reach real players is indicative how well the film will perform it may be a positive sign for the franchise’s future. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be in theaters Dec 20, 2024.
