Paradox Interactive has revealed details on their next major release, a project by CreativeForge Games called Ancient Space.
In the world of gaming space ships and RTSes go together like peanut butter and pickles (or is that just me?) When you combine the space ship/RTS mash-up with good production values and a stellar voice cast drawing from some of the biggest geek-draws in sci-fi-fandom, you get Ancient Space.
What is Ancient Space? Ancient Space is, in essence, Star Trek: The Next Generation in space. Your ship begins its journey as a scientific expedition to explore what lies at the outer edges of known space, on the fringe of what is known as “The Black Zone.” What you find proves to be far deadlier than anything you came prepared for, and as the game progresses you must make heavy story decisions, decisions that will affect what happens later in time, all while trying your best simply to survive.
One of Ancient Space’s biggest promotion points is its weighty story and cast of characters, both elements CreativeForge Games seems, from the information currently available, to have invested a great deal of time into. Drawing voice actors from classic series like Deep Space Nine, Firefly, and even Battlestar Galactica, the game seeks to invest itself as strongly as possible into the mindset of the science fiction fanbase before the first map is ever loaded, as comments on the game’s trailer on YouTube will out.
One of Ancient Space’s most intriguing and, possibly, controversial features is its emphasis on its single player campaign. While single player is always a popular part of the RTS experience, current information hints at a complete lack of any multiplayer element to the game at all, which could be a detriment to the game upon release.
Ancient Space will be making its way to both the PC and Mac in Fall of 2014.
