Paper Mario: The Origami King Coming to Switch in July

Nintendo recently unveiled the announcement trailer for the newest addition to the popular Paper Mario series, Paper Mario: The Origami Kingscheduled to release in July of this year. The game will bring a new story, character and world that players can jump into for $60 upon the game’s release. With a familiar cast, the trailer shows the Mushroom Kingdom being overtaken by the origami-king Olly, as the Mushroom Kingdom is encased in the origami paper. The short trailer released by Nintendo showcases the new origami environment of the game’s world, mixing elements of a two-dimensional paper world with three-dimensional origami world. The game, like the others of the series, is an RPG following Mario and friends as they attempt to take back the Mushroom Kingdom from the “origami” villain of the game.

New gameplay features including a new ability for Mario have been introduced to the game, giving Mario the power to extend his reach with the “1,000-Fold Arms” ability to solve puzzles and fight enemies. The game also introduces new characters, like Mario’s newest partner Olivia. Olivia is an origami-based character who partners up with Mario and an origami-Bowser in order to take back Mushroom Kingdom. The game features a plethora of familiar characters in its cast as well, including Princess Peach, Bowser Jr., and various enemies like Goomba or Shy Guys.

Paper Mario: The Origami King is being released during the time of Nintendo’s plan to release multiple remastered 3D Super Mario games for the Switch to celebrate Mario’s 35th anniversary. The remakes are set to include some of Nintendo’s most popular Mario titles from previous Nintendo consoles. These titles are set t to release next year and include remakes for Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy. This, along with the remakes, is setting up to make Mario’s 35th birthday one to remember.
