Ubisoft officially announced the delay of both Far Cry 6 and Rainbow Six Quarantine release dates. Both games were on track to be huge releases at the beginning of 2021, now it looks like they will be pushed back to later in the year. The announcement via conference call blamed COVID-19 for the setback. According to IGN,
“During the Q&A portion in a call with investors, Ubisoft Yves Guillemot confirmed that Far Cry 6 and Rainbow Six Quarantine could have been released on time as planned if there were no COVID-19 pandemic. Guillemot says that Ubisoft is continuing to optimize its workplace to better suit work-from-home conditions.”
The initial release date for Far Cry 6 was February 21, 2021. However, COVID-19 has made the date is up in the air. It looks like the game will be released after March 2021, which is the start of the next fiscal year for Ubisoft. The game is the next installment in the Far Cry series. It’s set on an island called Yara in the Caribbean. “El Presidente”, played by Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), rules the island. His son, Diego, is to follow in the footsteps but a revolution might prevent his succession from happening. Players will fight against the dictatorship as guerilla fighter Dani Rojas.
Rainbow Six Quarantine is a three-player co-op horror game. Not much is known about the Tom Clancy spin-off, other than its teaser trailer released at E3 in 2019. It seems to be inspired by Rainbow Six Siege’s Outbreak event. The trailer shows first-person character pointing their gun at menacing shadows, while a contraption on their arm sounds an alarm. The character is saved by two others when one yells “he’s going into stasis.” According to Polygon, the three-person teams are tasked with fighting against the threat of a technological parasite.
The coronavirus pandemic has delayed more titles from release, with Far Cry 6 and Rainbow Six Quarantine becoming the latest victims of the virus. Although no new date has been announced, it looks like fans will be able to battle dictators and viruses sometime after March 2021.
