Overwatch’s Hero 30 Confirmed to be Combat Medic Baptiste

In a recent tease, Overwatch tweeted out a log that led to a report from the villainous Talon’s team D. Cuerva. In it, they speak of someone named Baptiste, a possible combat medic who’s highly skilled. It’s also shows a hint that the hacking character Sombra might have a hand in all of this.

Fans had speculated who Baptiste may be, including someone who hoped it wouldn’t be Widowmaker’s dead husband. A lot of theories went around, and some of them were proven, and others were probably thrown out the window when Blizzard revealed the origins trailer for Hero 30, Baptiste:

Baptiste was orphaned during the Omnic war, and looking for help, he was recruited by Talon. There, he was was well trained, and well paid. But, it was clear he didn’t agree with their stance on the world. So he turned, knowing the world needed more heroes, and began his fight against Talon.

The video proves that in the Talon report, Baptiste is fighting against the organization trying to switch sides. And although Talon believes that no one just leaves, it brings in Cuerva once more, and that’s where they fit in the hunt for Baptiste. It also adds the question of which team Sombra actually fights for. In her own animated short “Infiltration”, it’s revealed that she might not be fully tied down to Talon. So it is possible she’s working behind Talon’s back, or even there to help Baptiste with what he does.

While there is no confirmed abilities for Baptiste, there have been some speculations of what he could use. In the trailer, he’s holding a grenade launcher, and it’s very reminiscent of Caira Diaz, one of the combat healers in the 4v1 game Evolve. There, she has a rather futuristic grenade launcher that switches between healing grenades and napalm grenades.

Baptiste, being a combat medic with a grenade launcher, it’s possible that he could have something similar where he switches between health and heal. His grenades could also be similar to Ana’s, that whenever they hit the ground, they do healing to teammates and damage to enemies. There won’t be any confirmed abilities until the future, but for now there are only speculations and assumptions.

There is no confirmed date of when Baptiste will enter the game of Overwatch PTR, or otherwise.
