Outlaws Of The Old West Heading To Steam Early Access

Virtual Basement has released their Early Access trailer for the cowboy MMO, Outlaws of The Old West. It will attempt to envelope players in everything that it would take to survive as an outlaw through survival skills, building homes, and fighting or joining up with bandits. Players can be a more passive outlaw and only take what they need to get by or become a more aggressive and feared individual in the open world. Here’s the Early Access trailer:

The developers are boasting “an initial massive play area of 144km2” that will be expanded upon as the game goes on. There will be different environmental biomes that will house unique weather, animals, and resources that can be harvested. To make an even more immersive experience the game will have a real-time day to night cycle, which will affect the temperature and what all online cowboys will require to survive the elements of nature. Animals can be hunted for food or materials, while others can even be tamed as companions, but not all. Hunting will allow cowboys to eat to sustain their hunger and also will provide resources to dress themselves uniquely or to battle cold weather.

A trading system will be in place that will permit an open market with other players in the community. This can range from trading one on one with another outlaw or bidding for an item at an auction house. Though it’d be wise to “be careful who you do business with in lawless lands.” After accumulating a large amount of supplies, craft wagons can be used to transport these goods, but will no doubt be open to bandit attacks. Players will be able to fend off enemies with classic weapons from the era such as buckshots, bows and arrows, and revolvers. Succeeding in gunfights, building a home, and gathering enough to survive will add to character experience to level up stats. Any actions will also affect a morality meter that could end up sending bounty hunters or other players on a manhunt.

Outlaws of The Old West is planning to arrive on the Steam Store Early Access on March 12 and the developers are anticipating an Early Access life of about one year.
