A special Game of The Year edition of Overwatch may be releasing in celebration of the game’s one year anniversary according to a recent data mine of the Xbox MarketPlace. Achievement tracker TrueAchievements recently found signs that point to a Game of the Year edition releasing, as well as an in game anniversary event that might be launching soon.
TrueAchievement’s Dave Horobin wrote in a blog post “It shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that our scanners have just picked up the Overwatch: Game of the Year Edition along with several Anniversary Loot Boxes,” The sites dataminers found boxart, descriptions, and other information about the unannounced releases.
Based on the store description the Game of The Year Edition will include the full game; 10 loot boxes; origin skins for five undisclosed characters; a “baby Winston pet” to use in World of Warcraft, and a playable version of unofficial Overwatch mascot Tracer for Heroes of the Storm. The anniversary loot boxes may suggest that the next major Overwatch event will be a celebration of the game’s first year. Each of the boxes will contain an anniversary skin, spray, highlight intro, pose, icon or voice line, according to TrueAchievement scanners. However no further pictures or information was found. The loot boxes will be available June 5 according to the datamine.
Blizzard Entertainment hasn’t confirmed or denied any plans to Overwatch’s first anniversary. A recent Twitter reply from the game’s official account also suggests that an anniversary event for the game is underway, however when a user asked about the timing of the event the account replied, “No timing details yet.”
Overwatch was released almost a year ago on May 24 and has accumulated more than 30 million players since its launch.
