Outlast 2 Teaser Released

Quite possibly the scariest game of 2013, the original Outlast gave the survival horror genre a whole new twist with its simple yet revolutionary mechanic of equipping the player only with a night vision video camera and throwing them into an asylum full of the unknown and creepy. In an interview with Red Barrels co-founder Philippe Morin on Bloody Disgusting earlier this month on October 12th he confirmed a sequel to the heralded game. Today the game was officially announced via the release of it’s first teaser trailer.

Not much is known about the sequel yet but in the same interview Morin revealed “The game will be a survival horror experience and it will take place in the same universe as Outlast, but it will have different characters and a different setting.” The night vision camera will also be making a return. In terms of a Mount Massive Asylum return he commented it may happen one day but “we have new ideas and themes we’d like to explore.”

The trailer doesn’t give much more information on what this game will be about but alludes to the cultism themes explored in the first installment.

Alongside the teaser trailer comes a cryptic message.

No conflict is ever black and white. But once the dust has settled, the victors get to decide who was right and who was wrong. Who is good and who is evil. Human nature pushes us to extremes of violence and depravity, which we then justify by divine inspiration and a promise of paradise to come. Horror rises from desperation and blind faith. OUTLAST 2 will test your faith, pushing players to a place where going mad is the only sane thing to do.

Outlast 2 is scheduled for Fall 2016 and will be available on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
