Original Darksiders Coming To Current-Gen Consoles

Ever since THQ went bankrupt and the Darksiders franchise went to Nordic Games, the series has been relativity quiet. Sure, Nordic Games released a remastered version of the second Darksiders game last year, but there has been no word on when fans can expect a third entry to the series.

We still don’t have any word on that, but Nordic Games is releasing a remastered, or “Warmastered” edition of the game, hopefully in an attempt to garner interest in a new sequel.

As I alluded to in the sentence above, the game is officially titled Darksiders: Warmastered Edition and will be released on all major consoles, including the Wii U.

Nordic Games made the announcement on their website where they detailed some of the features in the Warmastered Edition.

  • PS4, Xbox One and Wii U versions of Darksiders (Wrath of War)
  • Native 1080p rendering resolution
  • Doubled all the texture resolutions
  • Rendering improvements and rework
  • Better shadow rendering quality
  • Post processing effects
  • 60 FPS in moment to moment gameplay (PS4, Xbox One, PC, 30 for WiiU)

If you’ve never played the first Darksiders game, in a nutshell, the game is a Zelda-esque game where instead of playing a kid in green pajamas, you play as the moody personification of war. The game’s plot revolves around War being banished to Earth after being accused of starting the apocalypse. Here’s the blurb from Nordic:

Deceived by the forces of evil into prematurely bringing about the end of the world, War – the first Horseman of the Apocalypse – stands accused of breaking the sacred law by inciting a war between Heaven and Hell. In the slaughter that ensued, the demonic forces defeated the heavenly hosts and laid claim to the Earth…Dishonored and facing his own death, War is given the opportunity to return to Earth to search for the truth and punish those responsible.

The second game in the series broke away from the Zelda comparison, instead aping dungeon-crawler games like Diablo. The games received moderate success with both games sitting at 83% and 81% on Metacritic respectively.

Currently, Darksiders:Warmastered Edition doesn’t have a release date, but fans can expect to play it on Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Wii U.
