Okami Courier Might Become Reality in Dota 2

Over the course of its lifespan, Dota 2, the popular MOBA from Valve, has had multiple Steam workshop cosmetics added to the game for purchase. Although the page has been up since early November, Capcom has officially put out an Okami-themed item on the Dota 2 Steam workshop where it has recently gained traction.

A courier is a character in each game of Dota 2 that is able to walk or fly items purchased by a player to their owner. Items cannot be added to the player’s inventory unless they are in the presence of a shop. When a player normally purchases an item, it is stored for them at their fountain (the respawn location of each team’s essential home base). A courier is able to pick up most items, so having a companion able to bring important items without having to go back to base is a crucial part of any game. These couriers come in many different styles and varieties, from donkeys, to birds, and even to walking treasure chests.

The courier that Capcom has designed is modeled after Amaterasu, the main character from the Japanese themed, hack and slash RPG title, Okami. The page for the cosmetic item currently has a few images of the cosmetic in action, with a video showcasing its walking and flying animations to boot.

This sudden move to have an Okami courier in Dota 2 might actually be a tie-in with the upcoming Okami HD remake coming out later this month. It would also not be uncharted territory for Valve to release cross-promotional items in Dota 2 to help promote other games on Steam.

Even though the courier is functional, users will not be able to purchase the courier until it makes it into the game. Steam users can go to the Steam workshop page as of now and vote on the courier to be added to the game.
