We now have a new environmental trailer for one of Owlcat’s next big forays into the world of sci-fi RPGs, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn.
We get to see some of the gorgeous backgrounds and landscapes that Owlcat has crafted for the world of The Expanse (please ignore the corpses in the space station shots) alongside some dialogue from J, your main character’s twin, and another character which is presumably your character. They discuss some of the locations the camera pans over: Ganymede and its lush gardens and UNN presence, Ceres with its dark corridors and OPA extremist population before settling on Eros.
For those that are really excited at the prospect of a new sci-fi RPG and want to hear more juicy details, Polygon has reported on some of the things happening in the preview build for Osiris Reborn:
The Expanse: Osiris Reborn | New Details
▪️Recap: Takes place during the first two books in The Expanse series, or first two and a half seasons of the show
▪️You play as a mercenary for Pinkwater Security who also has an identical twin
▪️Customizable character: Origin, gender,… pic.twitter.com/dAV0lUIYAT— Shinobi602 (@shinobi602) August 21, 2025
So you’ve got a character creator as well a background selection system. The game itself is set during The Expanse’s first and second books and TV seasons. You’ve got a decent amount of reactivity to go along with a shorter 20-30 hour campaign with side objectives and more.
Owlcat specializes in taking pre-established IPs and transferring them to the video game medium. Starting with the mechanically insane depth of the Pathfinder games, which went out of their way to be as faithful to the tabletop as possible while also adapting what they could to video games. This philosophy was relaxed a bit in Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, but The Expanse will be the first time Owlcat don’t have to adapt a previously established ruleset, and in 3D no less!
This game will be a big moment for Owlcat, if they can make their mark with The Expanse: Osiris Reborn it might push them to the next echelon of developer. If you’re excited for a new sci-fi RPG or the progress of Owlcat in general, be sure to look out for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn’s eventual release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
