Oculus Ships Its First Wave Of Rifts For Consumer Release Today

After a successful Kickstarter back in 2012, followed by years of testing and development, Oculus is shipping out their very first batch of Rifts for consumer use today!

According to their website, purchasers who pre-order will receive an email indicating their unit has shipped, so keep your eyes peels and make sure to check your spam, just in case. Kickstarter initial supporters will be given first priority shipment, says Oculus. Pre-orders  Meanwhile, if you are looking to order yours now, be ready to twiddle your thumbs for a bit–Oculus predicts current orders won’t ship out until July.

This is a historic moment. Soon, people all over the world will be experiencing fully immersive VR in their own homes.

Oculus is selling their wildly anticipated Virtual Reality console and headset for $600 a pop (in comparison to Sony’s Playstation VR for $400, and HTC’s for $800). The Oculus package will be able to play 30 different gaming titles off the bat, with names such as “Zelda-esque labyrinth adventure” Chronos, sci-fi exploration game Farlands, sporty VR Tennis Online, and for horror junkies there’s Albino Lullaby.

 

Users can also watch an array of over 360 videos/short films on their Rift, with more games and movies being made available in the near future. Rift uses Unreal Engine 4 technology to simulate a comfortable augmented reality for everyone to enjoy–reviewers are raving! Gizmodo claims, “This shit is legit!” while lifestyle publ;ication the Independent is quoted saying, “High-end VR is finally here.”

Oculus also went out of their way to gently remind consumers that we can also buy Oculus Ready PC and Rift bundle on major outlets such as Amazon, BesyBuy, and the Microsoft Store.

Oculus Rift can be purchased today for consumer release for $600.
