No Man’s Sky Next Major Expansion Out Today

Hello Games has announced the brand new major expansion coming to No Man’s Sky, the Echoes update.

No Man’s Sky which is now seven years old this month, brings a swath of new features in Echoes, which launches today August 24th. One of the major additions is a new Robotic race, which has been in the game since it launched in 2016. Playing as a robot will offer players unique assignments for robots, along with new story content. Players can earn mechanical parts to create and customize their own robotic character.

Space combat is getting another overhaul, specifically for freight ships. Freighters can now battle other freighters, including newly introduced pirate freight ships. In a trailer for the expansion, some freighter battles were shown, where players can take on hordes of enemy ships, and deal massive destruction throughout the galaxy.

Another new feature is building a sci-fi staff that can be leveled up and used for new abilities, along with battling foes. There also is the introduction of a museum within base building, to store and display what you’ve discovered across your vast journey in No Man’s Sky.

Other updates with Echoes come to PSVR 2 which improves rendering quality, along with better performance for those on Nintendo Switch.

Sean Murray, founder of Hello Games, has been celebrating seven years since the launch of No Man’s Sky. Originally released in a dismal state in August 2016, No Man’s Sky has redeemed itself through various fixes and gone on to release 24 expansion updates, all of which have been free to players. As of today, No Man’s Sky is still going strong with updates and a dedicated player base.
