While most of us were focused on turkey, stuffing, and trying not to fall asleep after dinner, Hello Games was busy releasing the newest update to No Man’s Sky, Visions. Visions, which is the first major update since the Abyss in October, went live today and brought with it some interesting changes, mainly to the diversity of the planetary environments. A seemingly minor addition that everyone is looking forward to to is the addition of rainbows, but there are so many more changes to be excited about as well. Sean Murray, the game’s creator, tweeted out the update trailer earlier today, which you can check out below.
The update adds a number of new and strange planetary biomes, further adding to the vast variance of the game’s procedurally generated worlds. The new planets can be inhabited by unusual lifeforms, and contain new distinctions of flora and atmosphere, and yes, even rainbows. In addition to the aesthetic changes, players can discover strange, alien artifacts on planets and return them to their base for display as trophies, or try their hand at archeology and excavate ancient bones which can be worth quite a lot when sold as a set. Looking for more ways to make a quick buck? New crystal treasures, which only appear in the most hostile weather conditions, can be located and sold for a hefty chunk of change.
While the No Man’s Sky universe is vast, there’s no need to feel alone while exploring it. New community research missions allow players to share their progress and work towards a common goal. New emotes, base parts, celebratory fireworks, and even a new helmet, called the Eye of the Korvax, are available for players as rewards for new missions. Check out the full list of changes and additions, as well as the patch notes here, and get to exploring!
