Despite its negative reception on its launch in 2016, Hello Games’ infinite procedurally-generated world of No Man’s Sky has made an almost 180 in reviews over the past four years of the game’s life. No Man’s Sky was released in 2016 and received a large amount of negative feedback and reviews due to the lack of content and multiplayer that players thought would be available upon the game’s release. The PC version of the game was also review bombed, suffering from performance issues that caused large amounts of lag and frame drops. Despite the rocky start, the developers of the game would continue to release multiple free, and large, updates for players that would add multiplayer, new areas, weapons and tools, and life that players could encounter in their journey. The most recent of these free updates being the Living Ship update that gave players the ability to create sentient spacecraft for their travels. Players can also do a number of different things across the universe, including making their own music with the ByteBeat update. The studio has also added multiple games and bug fixes, UI updates and content that has been regularly added or scheduled.
Earlier today, Hello Games Founder Sean Murray said in an Xbox Wire post that the game would see continued updates and content, with “plenty more to come” and future content already being planned. The game will be coming to the subscription-based Xbox Game Pass in June along with the release of a new Windows 10 version of the game for PC players. Players can also purchase the game from the Xbox store for $24.99 if they do not want to opt for the Xbox Game Pass.
