Nioh 2 Gets a Closed Alpha Starting Tomorrow

Team NINJA has announced that a lucky limited number of PlayStation 4 users will be invited to a closed alpha for their upcoming hardcore action RPG Nioh 2. The studio doesn’t plan on expanding nor extending the alpha, so eager fans have to hope to receive an invite. The closed alpha is set to launch tomorrow May 24 and will run a full ten days until June 2.

Nioh 2 was quite surprisingly announced during Sony’s E3 press conference last year. While it wasn’t surprising that Team NINJA and Koei Tecmo would want to make a sequel to Nioh due to its success, the sequel was announced just a mere sixteen months after the first game released. Both games take place in Japan where players face samurai and yokai, demons, as they traverse levels. Both games fall in the Soulsbourne genre as they feature intense combat made famous by the genre’s namesakes.

The sequel will feature a few major differences from the original game as well. One such difference is, while the first game put players in the shoes of the Irish samurai William, Nioh 2 will feature a character creator for players to use. Another major difference will impact gameplay as players will have the ability to transform into yokai during combat.

Invites to the closed alpha are currently going out to players, so, for those who are hopeful, be on the look out for an email containing the invite. Currently, Nioh 2 has no release date or release window, but is set to release exclusively on PlayStation 4 at some point in the future.
