Yesterday, Nintendo Versus announced that it would release a 22-minute showcase featuring the hero from Dragon Quest in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. The video presentation will show off the new DLC character’s moves, his ultimate smash, as well as the different character skins for the hero. The presentation will be led by Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Mashiro Sakurai. The Dragon Quest Hero is the third DLC character for the game, second from the Fighter Pass, with the previous additions being Piranha Plant from Mario Bros. and Joker from Persona 5. After the Dragon Quest Hero, the next DLC character will be a blast from the past with Banjo Kazooie.
For those who don’t know, Dragon Quest is a turn-based JRPG series developed by Armor Project, ArtePiazza, Chunsoft, Heartbeat, Level-5, Square Enix, and character designs by the legendary Akira Toriyama. The game follows a hero as he seeks to root out evil in their world with the help of a party. It is a classic game series that has had profound influence on console role-playing games with releases on almost every major console since 1986. The game series has had eleven main series releases and several spin-offs including the Dragon Quest Monster series, and the Dragon Quest Builders series, which recently had its second game released. The eleventh game Dragon Quest XI is getting a release for the Nintendo Switch with additional content and a 16-bit version for players who enjoy the retro Dragon Quest games of the 90’s.
The Dragon Quest Hero will have four different skins, each one from a different game. Based on the trailer, the skins belong to the heroes from Dragon Quest IV, Dragon Quest VIII, Dragon Quest III, and the newest release Dragon Quest XI. The hero is a sword and shield type of character who specializes in physical and magical attack. His character comes with an MP gauge, and his shield can block incoming projectiles in a manner similar to Link. The DLC will be available for purchase on July 3oth, for $5.99.
