Nintendo Switch Will Not Have Backwards Compatibility and Other Details

Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu asked Nintendo a number of questions recently regarding the recent announcement of the Nintendo Switch. Famitsu has since posted the questions and responses that the company gave them.

To begin, Nintendo was asked if the Nintendo Switch was meant to be a successor to the Wii U and the company said that this is not the case. The Nintendo Switch is meant to be this new standalone console. Since it is meant to be its own console there will also not be any backwards compatibility with the 3DS or Wii U games. This makes sense since it was confirmed that the console would use cartridges and this would make backwards compatibility quite the difficult task. Nintendo also confirmed in that the Joy Con controllers will be included in a bundle with the console when it is finally released.

Nintendo was also asked quite a few questions that they did not acknowledge. The majority of these questions were ones surrounding specifics about the hardware aspects of the Nintendo Switch, namely: the battery life, processing power, and Nintendo Switch cartridges.  Nintendo stated that they would reveal these details at a later time which also makes sense. Since the console is not set to be released until 2017 Nintendo is most likely covering their bases by not promising anything they might not be able to deliver. Despite the recent release of the trailer and the first official look at this new Nintendo console has finally come around, there are still quite a number of questions about the console. Other than the hardware questions, a lot of the third party games that will be on the console are still up in the air. As we discussed in a previous article, despite the fact that both Skyrim and NBA 2K17 were in the trailer, both 2K and Bethesda gave equally inconsequential statements when asked about their games being on the Nintendo Switch.
