Nintendo’s new console, the Switch, has reportedly sold more consoles in its first two days than any other Nintendo console in North America and South America. This information comes from Nick Wingfield, a reporter for the New York Times, who recently had an interview with Reggie Fils-Aime, the President of Nintendo of America.
Additionally, it was reported that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sold more copies in the Americas than any other non-bundled launch title in Nintendo’s history, even beating out Super Mario 64 for the Nintendo 64. These feats have been seen as particularly impressive considering the Switch didn’t have the advantage of coming out during the holiday season the way the Wii did.
According to IGN, a press release also stated that the Switch has sold better in its first two days than any other Nintendo console in any of their first two days across Europe as well. It also states that Zelda: Breath of the Wild has become the best selling launch title in Europe. Actual sales numbers have yet to be released for either the Americas or most of Europe.
In an article by Le Figaro, it was stated that the Switch sold about 105,000 units in France in its first few days, beating out the Wii’s 95,000 sales in its first weekend in the country.
Kotaku reports that the Switch has sold about 330,000 units in its first three days in Japan, beating out the Wii U’s 308,000 in its first two days. However, it didn’t quite see the success that the Wii saw in its first two days in Japan, selling about 372,000 units.
Based on the Switch’s supposed sales in the Americas and Europe, the Switch could well be on its way to replacing the Wii as Nintendo’s best-selling home console ever.
