Nintendo Switch Review Roundup

The Nintendo Switch finally arrived last week and since it came out there has been many different opinions about it. Some people like the fact that the Switch has so much potential, while others think that it is trying to be too much and has mastered nothing. Some even noticed that due to the lack of games at launch, the Switch felt underwhelming compared to what you get with everything else.

One of the big let downs with the switch has come in the form of some equipment issues. Players around the world are reporting that the left Joy-Con has been having issues where it will lose connectivity. The issue was present in pre release and it seems as though there has been no patch put out that completely fixes the problem. The Joy-Con controller has also been noted as being cramped when it comes to the different buttons.

The final big negative for the Switch doesn’t come with the console itself but rather with the accessories you can get for it. Some of the accessories seem essential to the function of the Switch and Nintendo has made them extremely pricey. for another set of Joy-Cons it will cost around $100 and for the pro controller its $69.

Despite all this the one thing that the Switch has is Zelda Breath of the Wild. But go ahead and take a look below and see what some trusted reviews are for the console.

CNET- 7.5/10

“The Nintendo Switch is a solid piece of hardware that delivers an impressive gameplay experience in a small chassis. But a shallow roster of launch games beyond Zelda along with no concrete plan for legacy retro games leaves the Switch feeling more like a blank slate of unfulfilled potential on day 1.” – Jeff Bakalar

IGN- 7/10

“The Switch’s chameleon-esque ability to change between being a home console, a handheld, and a mobile party-game machine helps it rise above its individual shortcomings, but only to an extent. On the go, it’s a powerful piece of hardware with a gorgeous screen that’s a bit too large and power hungry to feel completely portable. As a console, it’s underpowered, unreliable, and lacking in basic features and conveniences that all of its competitors offer. It’s nicely built and cleverly designed to be used in a variety of ways, but ultimately, the Switch doesn’t do any one of the many things it can do without some sort of significant compromise.” – Vince Ingenito

Tech Radar- 4/5

“One-part handheld and one-part console, Nintendo’s latest piece of hardware wants to be the only device you need for gaming. In many ways it’s a big success, offering an exceptional level of handheld graphical quality, before seamlessly transitioning into a home console – but this very adaptability has necessitated compromises which mean it isn’t quite as good as the dedicated consoles and handhelds that have gone before it.” – John Porter

PC Advisor- 3.5/5

“We’re impressed with the hardware on offer with the Nintendo Switch – with some occasional frustrations. It’s extremely versatile and amazingly powerful for a portable, and that’s a unique selling point. It’s a slick, attractive device, but is let down by Joy-Con performance problems, limited software, and expensive accessories. We’ve enjoyed the Switch – and absolutely adore Zelda – but Nintendo still has some work to do.” – Lewis Painter
