New Dropshot Mode Coming to Rocket League

Rocket League players will be getting a whole new way to play later this month.

Developer Psyonix announced today the newest game mode to come to Rocket League, “Dropshot”, which will be added to the game as part of a larger update on March 22.  Check out the trailer below:

Dropshot brings some major changes to the core Rocket League gameplay, doing away with goals entirely in favor of breakable floors.  In Dropshot, players play in a hexagonal arena divided in half by team, with one half of the playable area being the orange team’s floor, the other being the blue team’s.  Players must use the ball, which is electrified and dangerous, to first break open the opponent’s floor, and then score by shooting the ball into these holes.

In Dropshot, it takes two hits from the electrified ball to break through your opponent’s floor; the first hit “activates” the panels, while the second hit busts them open.  Additionally, if players successfully juggle the ball in the air with multiple car touches before bringing it down on the floor, the ball will grow in power, wreaking damage on a wider spread of panels when it lands.  Players will earn points for the amount of destruction they do to the opponent’s floor in this way, similar to the way points are given in Rocket League for saves, assists, goals, etc.  The game mode will be played in a brand new arena, “Core 707”, which will be added in the update for exclusive use in the Dropshot game mode.

Also added in the update are new cosmetics, including paints, rocket trails, and decals, as well as a new playable car, the Endo.  The update also marks the end of competitive season 3 and the start of season 4, allowing players to get a fresh start with a new ranking, and rewarding players appropriately based on their performance in the preceding season.
