Today’s Nintendo Direct for this year’s E3 was a rapid-fire list of exciting new games, as well as a few remasters and remakes, that are coming to the Switch this year and in 2020. One of the big surprises was a cinematic teaser trailer for a new Zelda game, a sequel to 2017 best-selling hit The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Breath of the Wild released alongside the Nintendo Switch and is extremely popular with players of all kinds.
The teaser trailer doesn’t show off a whole lot, but it is cool to see that Nintendo has opted to make an entire sequel for Breath of the Wild, foregoing the option to add installments of DLC.
The trailer shows characters Zelda and Link exploring a dark and spooky cave, where they come across a long-decaying corpse glowing with a sinister force. This preview trailer is most definitely a direct sequel to Breath of the Wild, but Nintendo hasn’t shared the game’s official title yet. It’s possible that the game will have a unique title that indicates more about it’s general plot, but until then it’s likely that players will be referring to it as Breath of the Wild 2.

Nintendo did not provide a release date or release window for Breath of the Wild‘s sequel, but there’s sure to be more news in the coming weeks about this game as development progresses.
Nintendo’s E3 Direct had other Zelda-related announcement, too. Nintendo is also releasing The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening on September 20th, 2019, a reboot of the 1993 Game Boy classic. A rhythm rogue-like game titled Cadence of Hyrule from the creator of Crypt of the Necrodancer is also coming to the Switch this Thursday, June 13th.
