Following the announcement of the brand new Nintendo Switch OLED Model, many people in the video game community were curious as to whether or not Nintendo would release more powerful console. After all, Bloomberg had reported in the past that a model with a more powerful CPU and GPU would release as soon as September. Nintendo has now made a statement refuting reports that another model is planned at this time.
Last week, Bloomberg released report saying that the new OLED Model costs Nintendo around $10 more to manufacture, per unit, than the original Switch. But with a $50 price increase at retail over the original Switch, this would in turn lead to a higher profit margin for the company. However, in a tweet from Nintendo’s investor relations Twitter account, those reports were officially denied.
The tweet reads “A news report on July 15, 2021(JST) claimed that the profit margin of the Nintendo Switch (OLED Model) would increase compared to the Nintendo Switch. To ensure correct understanding among our investors and customers, we want to make clear that the claim is incorrect.” While previous rumors persisted for months prior saying that the new model would have 4K capabilities, a faster CPU, and even more powerful graphics with an Nvidia chip installed, Nintendo is also not famously known for releasing mid-cycle refreshes with large improvements such as those.
Nintendo decided to address these rumors of a more powerful Switch today as well, denying those rumors claiming that a more powerful console would come out. In a tweet under the initial statement, Nintendo says that “We also want to clarify that we just announced that Nintendo Switch(OLED Model) will launch in October, 2021, and have no plans for launching any other model at this time.”
This tweet has made people wonder if a console will come at some point in the future though, due to the language of it. After all, while Nintendo does not usually release more powerful mid-cycle refresh consoles, this is also the same company that released 6 different models of the 3DS. Anything is possible.
