Nintendo Releasing Apps Based on Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing

According to Nintendo’s fiscal year earnings, their next mobile apps will be based on Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing.  After the success of Miitomo, which now has over 10 million downloads, Nintendo is taking two of their biggest franchises into the mobile market.

In a financial report released today, Nintendo provided some more details on the upcoming apps.  For the Fire Emblem app, Nintendo stated that they want it to be “more accessible in comparison to Fire Emblem games for Nintendo’s dedicated game systems, Nintendo aims to offer the great value of a role-playing strategy game.”  It sounds like the app will be a simplified version of the Fire Emblem 3DS games, and I’m sure that they will incorporate the dating-sim-esque elements that everyone loves.

As for the Animal Crossing app, Nintendo said they designed the game “so that it will be connected with the world of Animal Crossing for dedicated game systems.  By playing both Animal Crossing games, users will find increase enjoyment.”  This is very interesting, as they are almost confirming that there will be a system link between the App and the Animal Crossing 3DS games.  This could also be sign of Nintendo moving towards inter-connectivity with all their devices, which might be the case with the NX.  After all, Nintendo collaborated with mobile game maker DeNA to develop a “multi-device membership service for the global market.”

It’s interesting that we haven’t even heard of any kind of Super Mario App, but here we have an Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem app releasing this fall.  This also goes along with Nintendo claiming that Fire Emblem is now one of their new major IP.  That’s pretty impressive for a series that wasn’t even released in America until Marth and Roy were in Super Smash Bros. Melee.  We are in the middle of Nintendo changing their entire business model, and we’ll really see how it will play out next year.
