Nintendo Portable Systems and Games See Price Cuts

We’ve got some good and bad news for your wallets, Nintendo portable gaming fans. First the good; Nintendo has decided to cut prices five of their top-selling 3DS games AND Target is offering a 2DS bundled with Pokemon X for just $100, plus throwing in $40 gift card if you purchase a 3DS XL. And the bad news? You’ll probably spend a lot of money in the near future.

No stranger to price cuts, Nintendo announced today that starting on April 22, Mario Kart 7, Super Mario 3D Land, New Super Mario Bros. 2, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D will drop from $39.99 to $29.99. That’ll be $149.95 (before tax) for all five of them, in case you were wondering. This price is available both on the Nintendo eShop and at retail stores.

The top three all-time best selling 3DS games (Mario Kart 7, Super Mario 3D Land and New Super Mario Bros. 2, respectively) have each sold over 2.15 million physical and digital copies in the U.S. alone with all five titles together surpassing 9 million copies, also in the U.S., Nintendo noted. So the games that got discounted were doing well. VERY well.

All five of the newly discounted games star classic Nintendo characters and franchises, and their strong sales over time demonstrate the longevity of Nintendo’s games” a Nintendo press release said. “The games make great gifts, engaging entertainment for families and other spring break travelers, or just a way to introduce kids to the fun of video games.”

As for the Target deals, those are just retailer sale prices. However, if you’re looking to break into the Nintendo portable market, today is a good day to get started. With the sale on both 3DS (lasting until April 19) and 2DS (while supplies last) it is helpful to note that each of the five titles is playable on either system. A suggestion, if I may: use that gift card and pick up one of those newly discounted top-notch games.
