Nintendo of America Doug Bowser Defends $70 Price for Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Fans of the Legend of Zelda franchise have been eagerly waiting for the next installment. Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the next title coming to the Nintendo Switch. While many people are ready to purchase and play the Breath of the Wild sequel, others are questioning whether or not its price is worth it. It was revealed that Tears of the Kingdom would cost $70. It should not be a shock that prices in games have risen over the years but the pricing for this game sent people into confusion.

Normally when it comes to major game titles, prices typically range anywhere from $50 to $60. While the increase is $10, it does have people wondering if other franchises will see a price increase. In a Q&A with the Associated Press, Doug Bowser, president of Nintendo of America defended the price jump by stating, “We look at what the game has to offer. I think fans will find this is an incredibly full, deeply immersive experience. The price point reflects the type of experience that fans can expect when it comes to playing this game. This isn’t a price point that we’ll necessarily have on all our titles. It’s actually a fairly common pricing model either here or in Europe or other parts of the world, where the pricing may vary depending on the game itself. “

The pricing for this game is based on the quality of its content. And Nintendo of America modeled it based on how other countries price their games. Consumers here aren’t accustomed to the price range due to the franchises. Although Legend of Zelda is one of Nintendo’s major titles, the $70 price is alarming. Pokémon Scarlet & Violet got mixed reviews for its graphics and performance issues. It came to a point where enough fans voiced their concerns and people were given the opportunity to seek a refund for the game. This leaves some players wondering if they could encounter a similar experience with the new game. Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is scheduled to be released on May 12, 2023, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
