Nintendo Live Event Returns To Japan After Three Years

After past cancellations due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, Nintendo Live finally makes its return to Japan this year! This annual fan convention will be held on October 8 and 9 at the Tokyo Big Site convention center. Nintendo enthusiasts will have the chance to compete in tournaments, win prizes, and go to a concert performed by beloved characters!

Even though Nintendo Live is making a comeback, precautions must be taken because of rising Covid cases in Japan. For the first convention in 2018, anyone who was interested in attending could easily purchase a ticket. This year, attendees will be chosen by a random lottery. As translated from the official Nintendo Live website, “only those who have won the lottery by prior application can enter to take measures against the new coronavirus infection.” Lottery winners must disinfect their hands and wear face masks throughout the event. Nintendo has also warned that the event may be canceled altogether if health and safety guidance from the Japanese government changes beforehand. Despite the extra safety measures, Nintendo still promises two days of fun!

If a lucky contestant wins admission to Nintendo Live 2022, what could they expect to see? First off, newer Switch games that were released after the pandemic have a chance to be in the spotlight. Tournaments for Nintendo Switch Sports, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and the upcoming Splatoon 3 will be held as well as informal tournaments for Super Mario Maker 2 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Tournaments will be split into two groups: one for elementary school-aged children and one with no age restrictions. Participants can also look forward to the comedy duo Yoiko performing on stage at the event. Finally, the most prominent features of Nintendo Live are virtual concerts starring characters from the Animal Crossing and Splatoon series. The 2019 concert opened up with K.K. Slider singing the Animal Crossing: New Horizons theme song, followed by a performance from the Squid Sisters and Off the Hook. Those who wish to experience this incredible jam session can view it on YouTube.

Will Nintendo Live 2022 follow up on its promises of a spectacular convention? We have only two months until this exciting event begins!
