Nintendo is Partnering With Nickelodeon for a TMNT-Themed Splatfest

Nintendo announced today that they will be hosting another Splatoon 2 Splatfest next month, as part of tie-in with the upcoming Nickelodeon show Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  The Splatfest will be the first ever to feature a multi-round tournament style, in order for just one of the four iconic brothers to reign supreme as the true best turtle.

Splatfests are the Splatoon way of letting players voice their opinions on the hardest of life’s 2-choice questions.  Previous Splatoon 2 fests have had players pick between Mayo vs. Ketchup, Vampires vs. Werewolves, Sweaters vs. Socks, and even Money vs. Love.  Players pick a side to fight for and compete in online multiplayer matches of Turf War, with the winner ultimately decided by a combination of popularity and team win rate.  Players are rewarded after the Splatfest based on both their individual performance and their team’s performance with Super Sea Snails, which are very valuable items to be exchanged in-game for gear customization.

With four turtles to get through, this Splatfest will feature two initial rounds and a third final round, on the following schedule:

  • Round 1: Raph vs. Leo
    May 4,  9 pm PST – May 5,  9 pm PST
  • Round 2: Mikey vs. Donnie
    May 11, 9 pm PST – May 12, 9 pm PST
  • Finals
    May 18, 9 pm PST – May 19, 9 pm PST

Doug Bowser, Senior VP of Sales and Marketing for Nintendo of America, spoke on the partnership:

We love working with unexpected partners to expand our brand and bring smiles to people’s faces in surprising ways…teaming up with Nickelodeon and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles made perfect sense, as we share many of the same fans who enjoy family-friendly entertainment and classic characters.

Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is set to debut on Nickelodeon in September 2018, and will be the fourth animated series made in the TMNT franchise.  Cyma Zarghami of the Nickelodeon Group believes the Turtles are due for another animated reboot, claiming the property has “reinvention in its DNA”.  As the freshest entry, Rise of the TMNT promises to take things in a different direction with “more humor, a younger and lighter feel and all-new dimensions to explore.”

A new teaser for the series dropped on March 23:

Be sure to set your reminders for the first round of the TMNT Splatoon 2 Splatfest, which starts this Friday May 4.
