Nintendo Has Shipped Over 7 Million Switch Units, 10 Million More Expected by April 2018

In a recent article by Everything Nintendo, it is revealed that Nintendo released their Q2 financial results for their company. In the report, it is shown than over 7 million units for the Nintendo Switch have been shipped thus far. In another report released by Nintendo, the company projects that the total number of units shipped by April of next year will Surpass the 17 million mark.

In the financial report, it shows that around 7.63 million Switches have shipped to retailers around the world so far. In addition, roughly 22 million Switch games have been sold globally, with the top three being The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Splatoon 2 respectively. Breath of the Wild has sold nearly 5 million units, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has sold 4.42 units, and Splatoon 2 has sold about 3.61 million units.

In roughly a year’s time, the Switch is expected to surpass the sales of the Wii U, Nintendo’s console from the last generation. Switch production and sales have marked a massive improvement over the Wii U, which sold roughly 13.56 million units over its five-year lifespan and deemed it as commercial failure as a result.

Although the Switch was released almost 8 months ago, it has still been a challenge to acquire one from major retailers. This Switch shortage should come to an end sooner rather than later. Nintendo had originally planned to ship a total of 14 million units by next year, but have since upped the shipping projection to 17 million for April of 2018. This should help put extra Switch units in stores for the upcoming holiday season, as well as have a steady stream of units shipping out well after the year ends.

With more upcoming game releases (along with a slew of great titles released so far), upped production of Switches, and the approaching holiday season, now is the perfect time to invest in the Switch to satiate any gamer curiosity.
