Today Nintendo aired their latest Nintendo Direct video, during which they dropped a slew of information on upcoming games and updates coming later this year and next year. The presentation started off on a strong note by announcing the latest DLC fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Pyra and Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Both characters count as one fighter that players will be able to switch between during battle, similarly to how Zelda and Sheik functioned in previous games. Pyra and Mythra will be the fourth DLC fighter featured in the game’s second fighter pass. In addition, a new stage based off of Xenoblade 2 will release alongside the fighters. This new DLC should release in March, however an exact date has not yet been given.
Many current games are also coming to the Nintendo Switch for the first time as well. Tales from the Borderlands, Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse, and Plants vs. Zombies Battle for Neighborville Complete Edition will all release this March. Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, and Outer Wilds will be available this summer. Famicon Detective Club: The Missing Heir, and Famicom Detective Club: The Girl Who Stands Behind, are both receiving remakes that will release on Switch May 14. Capcom Arcade Stadium a collection of classic Capcom games launches today. A physical release of Hades was announced for March 19, with a download code for its soundtrack included. A free update for Animal Crossing New Horizons will be released Febuary 25, with new Mario Bros. themed items being released as well on March 1. Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection, and Bravely Default 2 will release later this month on February 25 and 26 respectively. Miitopia will also be coming to Switch May 21.
Ninja Gaiden will also becoming to Switch in the form of Ninja Gaiden Master Collection. The collection will contain all content from Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, and Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor’s Edge, including all DLC.
A trailer for Monster Hunter Rise was shown alongside a release date of March 26.
Samurai Warriors 5 was announced for summer 2021.
The latest Mario sports game, Mario Golf Super Rush was announced. The game was shown to have motion controls utilizing the Joy-Cons. The game will also introduce a story mode where you can play as a Mii character with stats that can be upgraded over time. The game will release June 25.
A new tactical strategy game, Project Triangle Strategy (Working Title) was announced for a 2022 release. The game is a mix of tactical combat similar to Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy Tactics, with an emphasis on character interactions and diverging narrative choices. A demo for the game is currently available for download.
A new trailer for No More Heroes 3 was shown. The trailer shows off a bit of combat, as well as a multitude of different gameplay styles players will come across in the game, including mining for cash, racing a motorbike down a tunnel, a first-person horror section, and a turn-based boss fight. A new upgradable item, the Death Glove was also shown. The game will release August 27.
A new first person action game Neon White was shown where players use various abilities to eliminate demons in heaven, the game releases winter this year. A game based off the animated series of he same name DC Super Hero Girls will be released June 4. Star Wars Hunters was teased for a release later this year. Knockout City is a competitive open arena dodgeball game that releases May 21. Worlds End Club is a new title of a similar style to Danganronpa and Zero escape series that releases May 28.
Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity will be receiving an expansion pass with two waves of content coming in June and November. The expansion pass will include new characters, weapon types, stages, and challenges.
The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword HD was announced. The game will replicate and enhance the motion controls of the original game by using the Joy-Cons. Additionally, players not wanting to use motion controls are now able to use the right control stick to perform actions instead. The game releases July 16, special edition Zelda themed Joy-Cons will release the same day.
The last announcement during the direct was for Splatoon 3. Not much was shown off outside of some light character creation, and some combat that mirrors the games predecessors. The game will release in 2022.
