Nintendo Direct Releases New Updates for Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon

Nintendo Direct featured new updates for Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon, revealing a number of new teasers for the upcoming games.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon’s August announcement trailer featured new clothes, new areas to explore, updated maps, Lycanroc’s dusk form and more. It seems like trainers will begin the game at similar starting point near their home, and choose between Popplio, Litten, and Rowlet as their starter Pokémon. New in-game features such as the Alola Photo Club and Kommo-o’s Z move were also revealed.

Nintendo Direct’s latest trailer has released even more information for Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, without too many spoilers to the direction the games will take. The trailer gave a bit more screen time for the legendary Pokémon Necrozma, which appeared to have merged with Solgaleo and Lunala to become Dusk Mane and Dawn Wings respectively. This wouldn’t be the first time for such a merge to happen, as Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 saw the merging of Kyurem, Zekrom, and Reshiram as a part of the game’s main storyline. Necrozma can be captured in Pokémon Sun and Moon but does not play a significant role in the games.

Two new Ultra Beasts were also revealed, UB Burst and UB Assembly, but no details have been given about their influence to the storyline. Ultra Beasts in Pokémon Sun and Moon played large role in the trainer’s actions after becoming the champion in Alola’s Pokémon league, so it is possible UB Burst and UB Assembly may play active roles in the new games as well. UB Burst will be exclusive to Pokémon Ultra Sun and UB Assembly will be exclusive to Pokémon Ultra Moon according to Serebii.net.

Special Rockruff’s can be obtained by purchasing the game before January 10th, and they are able to evolve into the new Lycanroc dusk form. Lycanroc’s dusk form also displayed a powerful new rock-type Z move, Splintered Stormshards, but the trailer did not announce if this Z move was exclusive to the new form. Trainers planning to pick up the game early for the special Rockruff have a slight incentive to make a digital purchase too, as they will receive 12 quick balls with a digital download of either game.

Fans who are a little impatient for the game’s November release can pass the time by purchasing digital downloads of classic Pokémon Gold or Silver released September 22, which will come with Celebi as a special gift to download onto Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, or Ultra Moon. The special Pokéball edition New Nintendo 2DS XL can also be purchased starting November 3rd, close to the release date of Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You!.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon will be released for Nintendo 3DS and 2DS systems on November 7, 2017.
