Nintendo Classics is one of the most popular features of Nintendo Online, and the consistent updates provide ample reasons for players to return. This month, the Super Nintendo games have been updated with October’s game line-up. These games include BUBSY in: Claws Encounters of the Fur Kind, FATAL FURY SPECIAL, and MARIO and WARIO, a game that was once exclusive to the Japanese Super Famicom.
The introduction of BUBSY in: Claw Encounters of the Fur Kind onto the Switch and Switch 2 will allow players to once again control the classic mascot in a retro setting. While he has remained a presence in video games with Bubsy 4D set to release in 2026, many fans remember him more from his appearances during the mascot wars of the 90s. In BUBSY: in Claw Encounters of the Fur Kind, Bubsy is on a quest to retrieve his yarn from evil aliens throughout various stages. The platforming elements are inspired by Mario games themselves, making the game fit the theme of the console nicely.
The next game that was shown off was FATAL FURY SPECIAL, a continuation of the fighting game series that builds on FATAL FURY 2 with new characters and familiar faces from the original game. Many Nintendo fans will also recognize the series not only for its own popularity, but its ties to Super Smash Bros that were established when Terry came to the game.
The final game coming to the Super Nintendo in October is Mario and Wario, a beloved puzzle game that previously was only released in Japan. In it, Wario has sabotaged Mario with a shell to block his vision. The goal of the player is to control the forest fairy to modify Mario’s surroundings to ensure that his aimless wandering eventually reaches Luigi. The game shares many similarities with later Nintendo puzzle games such as the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series, meaning players outside Japan will finally have a chance to play the game that inspired the games they may have played growing up.
The three games are playable on the Super Nintendo feature of the Nintendo Classics that comes with Nintendo Online.
