Nintendo Announces Super Smash Brothers Ultimate Online Open Tournament

Starting on the weekend of May 31st, Nintendo plans to host a series of online tournaments that will last until the 21st of June. The Super Smash Brothers Ultimate North American Online Open is the second tournament in the series of tournaments for this year, following Nintendo’s Spring 2020 Online event. The top four highest-placing players from each of the four tournaments hosted will receive downloadable copy of the Super Smash Brothers Ultimate Fighters Pass: Volume 2Splatoon 2, and a copy of Arms for the Nintendo Switch. The tournament will follow the same rules as past Nintendo online Ultimate tournaments and will be in a 1v1 arena format with no items. Each weekend will be a tournament for a specific region to compete in, and you can check which tournament date is for your region and sign up on the Battlefly page for the tournament. Registration for all four weekends of tournaments is free but will close on May 30th, before the start of the first online tournament in the series.

Competitors are only allowed to compete in the one tournament designated for their region or they may be disqualified. The tournament will take place on the Saturday of each weekend they occur on, and Sunday finals will be livestreamed via Nintendo’s Twitch channel. The tournament will also be commentated by professional Super Smash Brothers commentators and footage of the tournament will later be uploaded to Youtube. Players can find out more information about the tournaments and have any questions they might have, answered on the Battlefly page as well when they register. Anyone above the age of 13 is eligible to enter, but a Nintendo Online membership and stable internet connection are required for entry.
