Nintendo Announces First Ever Phone App Miitomo Out In March

Play on your phone or tablet!

According to an exciting announcement over at Nintendo’s official website, the company will launch its first ever app for smartphones and smart devices: Miitomo. We can expect a release date sometime in March. The app will be compatible with iOS/Android phones and tablets.

Featuring Mii characters, users will be able to interact with their friends in an entirely new way that transforms communication into a form of play….

Consumers can pre-register for Miitomo on February 17th. You can do so by creating a new Nintendo Account service via one of the three methods: an pre-existing email, a social media account, or your current Nintendo Network ID. Those who go to the trouble of pre-registering will receive the first notifications on when the app launches.

Users of the app will have the ability to utilize the “Miifoto” feature, where they can share pictures starring their customizable Mii avatar. The app will also be able to connect with Nintendo’s new award system, My Nintendo, also launching alongside the app in March of this year. This will replace the company’s unpopular “Nintendo Club” program. They appear to be making a new start with the launch of their first step into the app world.

Miitomo is a social experience that uses Nintendo’s Mii characters, which first debuted on the Wii console, to engage friends in a light hearted and welcoming environment. Users can spark fun conversations and learn more about each other… -Nintendo

The app will be launched in 16 territories: North America, Western Europe, Japan, Russia, Australia and New Zealand; it will, however, only run on eight languages — English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish and Russian. Perhaps given success with user and more time with developers, we will see further languages added to the Miitomo roster.

Nintendo went a step further and announced that not only will the app be making its grand debut in March, but also a line of 5 smart device applications. As to what these new apps are, it is unknown at this time.

We can look forward to pre-registration this month on February 17th, and the app’s release in March of this year.

Cheers, Nintendo!
