Nintendo Announces Fire Emblem Presentation

Today, Nintendo announced that they will have a presentation via Nintendo Direct about upcoming Fire Emblem games. For anyone who doesn’t know, Fire Emblem is the franchise that Marth, Roy and Ike of Super Smash Bros. fame originally come from.

Previously, Fire Emblem Warriors was announced at the Switch presentation last week. It is widely assumed that this game will feature Dynasty Warriors-like mechanics and gameplay but with Fire Emblem characters, similar to how Hyrule Warriors was a Dynasty Warriors-like game but with Zelda characters. Although the Dynasty Warriors games, as well as Hyrule Warriors, were received generally positively, many fans of the Zelda franchise were disappointed in Hyrule Warriors‘ repetitive gameplay and the feelings of it being more of a Dynasty Warriors game with Zelda characters rather than an actual Zelda game. We’ll just have to wait until Fire Emblem Warriors comes out to see if Fire Emblem fans are more into this style of game.

The wording of the announcement read, “Tune in on Wednesday … for a Nintendo Direct presentation focused on upcoming Fire Emblem titles.” This would seem to confirm that there are multiple Fire Emblem games in the works, rather than just Fire Emblem Warriors. Many fans are speculating that a mobile Fire Emblem game will be announced during this presentation. It’s also possible that Fire Emblem Warriors‘ release date, or at least release month or season, will be announced as well.

The presentation is set for tomorrow (Wednesday, January 18) at 2:00pm PT / 5:00pm ET and will be viewable at Nintendo Direct (nintendo.com/nintendo-direct) and Nintendo’s Twitch channel (twitch.tv/nintendo).
