Nintendo Announces Corrin, Cloud, And Bayonetta For Super Smash Bros

For over a year, Nintendo has been adding content and characters for Super Smash Bros for the Wii U and 3DS. Today, December 15th, game developers launched their final video presentation, announcing even more content to be coming to SSB. Players can expect unique and playable characters/stages. Let’s take a look at this characters and what Nintendo promises to add alongside them:

Corrin

While the new Fire Emblem game was released several months ago in Japan, developers are getting hyped about the North American launch. Perhaps this SSB cameo is a cunningly timed promotion on Nintendo’s part–as they so cleverly put it “become familiar with Corrin before you play the game!”

Corrin looks like a fresh new face to the line up with fun attacks such as: Fang Shot, Dragon Ascent, and Dragon Fang. Corrin can also use a Back Air Attack and a counter surge. It appears that Corrin has two very unique abilities he brings to the arena:

  1. Having the blood of dragons flowing within his body, Corrin has the fearsome ability to transform himself (or PARTS of himself, ie: his head or arms) into a dragon. Corrin can also sprout leathery wings to use as a defense or recovery.
  2. This is definitely a Smash first. Corrin can alter his gender. Both sexes are, developers assure, on an equal playing field. Playing as either male or female Corrin is entirely a matter of personal preference.

While other characters received welcome to the Smash screen with specialized arena area, fans are disappointed to hear we won’t be receiving an exclusively new Fire Emblem stage, we can look forward to two free music tracks thrown in alongside our purchase of Corrin.

Corrin is priced for both the Wii U and 3DS at $4.99 USD, and is targeted for a February 2016 debut.

Cloud

This character hardly needs introduction. Hailing from legendary fan-favorite Final Fantasy VII with his hefty buster sword in tow, Cloud is being added to the line of usual Smash suspects with a bang.  Fans can look forward to using attacks such as Limit Break,  and his Final Smash, Omnislash (a cheeky reference to his signature move in the original game). All of Cloud’s sound effects are reported to be inspired from FFVII, and Square Enix’s own Tetsuya Nomura (character illustrator for FFVII, FFVIII, FFX, Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts 2, and more) contributed to the game’s artwork with Cloud’s official Challenger art.

Players can purchase the Midgar Stage–a location featured at the beginning of FFVII. Nintendo did a great job of capturing the cyberpunk environment that fans grew so fond of. He will also have two costumes: His original FFVII garb, also his outfit from the animated feature film, Advent Children.

Cloud is available for purchase TODAY for $5.99 USD.
The Midgar Stage can be bought for $6.99 USD.

Bayonetta

The angel hunting witch from her namesake game will be coming to your Wii U or 3DS with two sets of lovely guns: Love is Blue, and Scarborough Fair. Additionally, she will have two costumes from both of her games: from Bayonetta 2, her short hair, and blue clothes; from the first Bayonetta, her long hair look, along with her costume “A Witch With No Memories.” Players can use moves such as: Witch Weaves, Witch Time, Bat Within, Bullet Climax, Heel Slide, After Burner Kick, and Witch Twist. Her Final Smash we can look forward to is called “Infernal Climax” which summons the fearsome Demon Gomorrah.

Before selecting new characters for Super Smash Bros, Nintendo looked to their fans for their final decisions. Bayonetta scored #1 in the European Super Smash Bros Fighters Ballot, top 5 in the North American Ballot, and was the #1 Worldwide contender. Her signature gun-heels will accompany her, as well as her stage: Umbra Clock Tower.

Bayonetta will also be available for purchase for $5.99 some time in February 2016.
The Umbra Clock Tower will be priced at $6.99.

Keep your eyes peeled in February, but for now we can all head to the Nintendo eshop and enjoy crushing our friends and foes alike as Cloud.
