More than any other publisher and game company, Nintendo and its rumored movements are perhaps the most scrutinized in the industry. With the recent Nintendo Direct highlighting a slew of new titles for the upcoming year, the Big N is readying itself for a rather impressive lineup to hit its projected sales objectives. In a recent interview on Kinda Funny podcast, as reported by My Nintendo News, Game Informer Imran Khan added more fuel to the hype fire, stating that Nintendo is looking to revive a game that has long been cancelled.
Khan believes that “there’s a game that’s thought to be dead that Nintendo‘s reviving, and it is not one that people would expect.” He seems to be very confident on the matter, even going as far as to express being sure that it will exist again. According to the website, Khan will hold off writing an official report on the news until he gets confirmation from more sources.
First party Nintendo games are rarely ever cancelled, given that the developers tend not to announce projects publicly unless they are sure to follow through. Though they go through delays and false rumors as much as other game companies, an outright cancellation of an ongoing in-house project has never been Nintendo’s M.O. As such, it’s unclear whether Khan is referring to a third-party title, or something buried that never made its way to the public spotlight.
Just a month ago, Nintendo reassured its fans that it will be launching an unannounced title for the next fiscal year (April and onward), one that would surely make its fans happy. There’s no telling whether or not these two pieces of evidence are connected in any way, but the timing does seem rather convenient. Nintendo has consistently surprised its fans, able to circumvent rumor mills and leaks with aptitude, which is what gives Nintendo Directs their immense hype, most recently with the reveal of Link’s Awakening remake. Only time will tell what the company has in store for 2019, as it strives to reach its lofty fiscal ambitions.
