Nightwolf Brings His Spirit Energy to Mortal Kombat 11 with New Gameplay Trailer

After a bit of waiting, Ed Boon and NetherRealm Studios have revealed the official gameplay trailer for upcoming Mortal Kombat 11 DLC character Nightwolf. Ed Boon teased the reveal on Twitter earlier this week, but there was also an early leak that revealed Nightwolf’s release date on Nintendo’s website, which posted 25% off deal for Mortal Kombat 11 on the Switch that mentioned the early access to Nightwolf on August 13th for Kombat Pack owners.. The date has since been removed from the post on the site.

Nightwolf has been absent from the roster since Mortal Kombat 9, but it looks like he still has many of his most memorable moves judging from his reveal trailer. It looks like Nightwolf has some new weapons as well as the ability to wield lightning. Nightwolf has allies in a spirit bear and a spirit wolf that are with him as the trailer opens, and Nightwolf is pretty miffed about what Kabal and Kano are doing to his ancestral Matoka lands.

Getting right into Nightwolf’s gameplay, the trailer then shows Nightwolf unsheathing a bladed weapon from his back to begin his offense, then finishing with a green spirit bow. It looks like the bow can be held taut and then released at the player’s discretion. It seems aspects of the spirit bow change depending on the player’s chosen Variation for Nightwolf, as later in the trailer the bow is blue and has lighting properties. He of course has his tomahawk axes, which he can dual wield.

Nightwolf is also shown summoning his spirit animals in to help enhance his combat abilities. The bear spirit lends Nightwolf an orange aura with defensive properties that deflect Kabal’s projectiles. The wolf lends a blue aura to Nightwolf that grants him some enhanced offensive properties as well.

The trailer also showcases Nightwolf’s Fatality, wherein Nightwolf inserts his tomahawk axe into the enemy’s face to create a wedge, then splits the enemy in two all the way down to the legs. The gore fest is finished with Nightwolf throwing his tomahawk right into the newly exposed organs.

The trailer confirms that early access to the Nightwolf character DLC starts August 13th for those who’ve purchased the Kombat Pack, and August 20th for those purchasing him on his own. So far, the Kombat Pack includes DLC characters Shang Tsung, Nightwolf, Sindel, Spawn, as well as two as of yet unannounced characters. The Kombat Pack also includes Klassic Skins for the roster and sells for $39.99.

Mortal Kombat 11′s Pro Kompetition EVO 2019 event will be on Saturday, August 3rd at 8 PM PDT. Mortal Kombat 11 is available for Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and is set to be playable on the Google Stadia.
