Nightdive Studio has announced that the remaster for Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC on November 14. Created in tandem with Universal Games and Digital Platforms, Shadow of Oblivion Remaster is the restoration of the classic first-person shooter originally released in 2000 for the Nintendo 64. The remaster will contain 4k resolution at 120FPS along with an improved renderer to achieve a higher level of visual fidelity across 3D models, textures, and graphical effects. The game will also include upgraded gameplay and support for console gamepads with platform-specific features.
The Turok series is noted as one of the classic touchstones in gaming history and to quote Larry Kuperman, Director of Business Development at Nightdive Studios, “being able to provide the newest and improved version of Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion is a great feeling.” He also went on to add,“It makes full use of the latest version of our KEX engine, and we’re excited to share the game with players later this year.”
As for the premise of the game, players choose between the dual protagonists Joseph and Danielle Fireseed, siblings of Turok 2: Seeds of Evil protagonist Joshua Fireseed. Together the siblings must band together to defeat the titular antagonist Oblivion and his followers known as the “Flesh Eaters,” after the supposed death of their brother at its hands.
Turok‘s remaster marks the first time it’s been available since its original release on Nintendo 64. In the upcoming remaster, the game will see an additional host of improvements. These include enhanced environment art, character models, and updated weapon models. New and advanced rendering features, anti-aliasing, bloom, ambient occlusion, dynamic shadows, and motion blur will also be present in the remaster.
In addition to the game being available on most platforms, the game will also see a release on Steam in November 14.
