NieR: Automata to be Released for PC in Early 2017

Back at the 2015 E3 event in Los Angeles, Square Enix announced a sequel to their 2010 cult action role playing game NieR. The sequel, named Nier: Automata, will bring back Yoko Taro and will once again be a joint collaboration between Square Enix and Platinum Games. Automata was originally announced to be a PS4 exclusive when Square Enix announced the development of the sequel, but today at Germany’s GamesCom, they’ve announced that they will be expanding that to include Windows PC. According to Polygon, sometime in early 2017, Nier: Automata will be released for both PS4 and PC. Below is the latest official trailer released by Square Enix in this year’s E3:

Square Enix waited to announce this news during Gamescom, which officially kicks off today. NieR: Automata’s PC version was revealed by creator Yoko Taro while wearing his famous helmet and fiddling with a Valve:

One of the reasons so much hype surrounds this game is because of the great amount of talent behind it. Here’s a list from a press release posted on TechnoBuffalo listing some of the names behind NieR: Automata:

Developed by an all-star team consisting of producer Yosuke Saito (DRAGON QUEST® X / NIER), director YOKO TARO (Drakengard® / NIER ), character designer Akihiko Yoshida from CyDesignation, Inc. (FINAL FANTASY® XIV / BRAVELY DEFAULT®), game designer Takahisa Taura from PlatinumGames Inc. (Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance), and composer Keiichi Okabe from MONACA, Inc. (TEKKEN / Drakengard 3 / NIER ).

NieR: Automata will focus on three androids, 2B, 9S and A2 as they fight their way through a dystopia that’s riddled with machine lifeforms. They must reclaim it from the invaders who unleashed these powerful machine lifeforms, which are their weapons. Taking refuge on the moon after fleeing the Earth from inevitable destruction, humanity fights back using 2B, 9S, and A2, otherwise known as the YoRHa squad. Humanity and the invaders fight for Earth in a proxy war using their machines and androids.

We hope NieR: Automata will launch simultaneously for both PS4 and Windows PC, which is still set at sometime around early 2017.
